EMP-Mine

The EMP Mine is a deployable Device. It can be placed on the battlefield where it will bury itself into the ground, before activating. The activated mine is completely invisible to the enemy, but it still can be destroyed if fired upon. The Mine will stay active until the end of the round.

Effect[ | ]

When an enemy enters the Mine’s detection radius, it will detonate and affect all enemies within the area of effect.

The EMP Mine drains all the Energy of enemies within the blast area, denying them the use of their weapons and devices for a short while.

The Mine can’t be triggered by the robot who placed it or by his allies.

Strategies[ | ]

Anti-Device – If an opponent is known for the heavy use of Turrets and Shields in combat, it might to be better to lure him into an EMP trap first, and attack him while he can’t rely on his Devices for support.

Ambush – Place the Mine in narrow passageway or in front of Pick Up spawn points, then hide nearby. When an enemy springs the EMP, they’ll be at your mercy.

Prey Into Hunter – When pursued, drop the EMP Mine just after turning a corner and wait for the enemy to come around. When he does, he will suddenly find himself in your sights, without sufficient Energy to retaliate adequately.

Avoiding Pursuit – Drop the Mine in a narrow passage while being pursued by an enemy some distance behind you. Your opponent will have to stop and spend some time trying to destroy the invisible mine, hopefully buying you enough time to escape

Up Close and Personal – Deploy the Mine in close quarters combat or near a Juggernaut-type robot. Even if your enemies see it coming, they might not have enough time or space to evade the explosion.

Combo Mines – Place both an EMP and a Grav Mine on the same spot to assure that any enemy who springs the trap will be left completely vulnerable.

Counter-strategies[ | ]

Avoidance – Due to their nature, EMP mines are not dangerous if there’re no opponents around to take advantage of their effect. Therefore, if you’re sure that you’re far from any enemies, you can walk around without worry of triggering an EMP – even if you do, you’ll have enough time to regenerate the Energy loss. However, be wary of pursuing foes known to use EMP Mines into narrow areas – they just might be luring you into a trap.

Mine-Sweep – While it’s nearly impossible to clear mines with most weapon, the Trasher and the Sprayshot, with their 100% hit rate within a cone of effect, are perfect “minesweepers”. Just aim for a spot where you suspect a mine might be placed, such as a door threshold or a Pick Up spawn point, and fire away. These two weapons make sure to destroy any buried explosives, guaranteed. Also, all weapons that deliver area-of-effect damage (such as Missiles) are a viable, albeit more expensive alternative.

Destroy Parent – Destroying an enemy Mine-user will immediately deactivate all the Mines he has planted. If your team is being harassed by running into a lot of Mine trap, you should prioritize the enemy Mine-users in combat.
